Budget per day

For a safari by road, all inclusive (accommodation, meals, vehicle, guide, entry fees):
| Level | Per person and per day |
|---|---|
| Budget (camp, shared vehicle) | about USD 150 to 300 |
| Mid-range (lodge, private car) | about USD 300 to 600 |
| High-end (luxury camp, flights) | above that |
A Nairobi operator gives on average USD 250 to 300 per person per day for a road safari in the budget to mid-range class. Prices fall with the number of travellers in the car, and rise in high season (July to October for the Mara). A single-traveller supplement is often added.
Park entry fees
Rates for non-residents, per adult and per 24-hour day (children at half price in KWS parks), according to lists found in October 2026:
| Park | Adult |
|---|---|
| Amboseli | USD 90 |
| Tsavo East and West | USD 80 |
| Nairobi | USD 80 |
| Lake Nakuru | USD 90 |
| Masai Mara | USD 200 in high season, USD 100 in low season (valid 12 hours) |
An extra fee applies to each vehicle. KWS parks are paid on the eCitizen portal or at the gate; the Masai Mara is paid at the gate. Always check whether your package includes them. See Amboseli, Tsavo East and Masai Mara.
Transport
By road, transport is usually included in the safari price. A bush flight to the Masai Mara costs about USD 130 to 250 one way per person according to guides: see flight or road for a safari. For the coast, the Nairobi-Mombasa SGR train is a common option.
The beach
For the coast, we have no official price list. Booking listings found for Diani show hotels at about USD or EUR 130 to 140 a night for a mid-range double room, and over 300 at the top end, on varying dates: check prices for your dates. See Diani Beach and where to stay in Kenya.
Short safaris from Nairobi or the coast
Examples found: a one-day Amboseli trip, about USD 140 to 250 per person; 3 days in Amboseli, about USD 450 to 1,450; 2 days in Tsavo from the coast, about USD 370 to 640. See the Amboseli safari and the Tsavo safari.
Tips and extras
The customary tip for the guide is about USD 10 to 20 per person per day, according to sources, to adjust to the quality of service. Allow for drinks, village visits and the visa or travel authorisation: see visa and eTA for Kenya and money and tipping.

Spending less
- Travel in low season (the Mara entry fee is half as much from January to June according to the schedule found).
- Share a vehicle, or choose a camp outside the park.
- Compare three offers and ask what is included.
- Choose Amboseli or Tsavo rather than the Mara: lower entry fees. See Masai Mara or Amboseli.
