Nairobi Railway Museum: steam locomotives, opening hours and fees
The Nairobi Railway Museum, near the central station, keeps the locomotives and carriages of the Uganda Railway, the colonial-era line built between Mombasa and Lake Victoria, of which Nairobi became a stop. You can see steam locomotives of several classes, historic carriages and objects from railway history. A little-visited place, ideal for train and photography lovers.
Highlights

The rows of rolling stock

Tips
- We found no reliable official fee: secondary sources differ (from a few hundred shillings for residents to about USD 10 for a non-resident adult), so ask at the entrance or check with Kenya Railways (krc.co.ke, +254 709 907411). Allow 1 hour. The site is somewhat off-centre, east of downtown near the station: take a taxi or ride-hailing car, and do not stroll around the neighbourhood with valuables on show (see scams and safety in Kenya). For a cultural day, pair it with the Nairobi National Museum.
How to get there
Station Road, near Nairobi's central station, about 1.5 km from the business district: taxi or ride-hailing app (Uber, Bolt) recommended.
